Rihanna Fans React to Russian Roulette Artwork

The wait is over and the fans have spoken. Rihanna’s new single, “Russian Roulette,” made its way to radio today and the cover art made its way to the Internet.

The single sleeve centers on a photo of Rihanna, wearing very little clothing and many restraints. The singer is entangled in what looks to be barbed wire, sporting a cut-out eye patch while her right arm is suspended by a chain.

MTV News ventured into Times Square to ask fans about their first impressions of the risqué album art. While many liked the image and thought it was “cool,” most fans seem to think there may be a hidden underlying meaning.

“Personally, I think it looks a little uncomfortable,” commented Richard, 21, from Portland. “Given the recent things with Chris Brown, [there might be] an implicit message in there.” Other fans also thought that the photo may have deeper meaning.

“I think that one of the problems that people are already having with it is that her incident with Chris Brown,” fan Paul, 25, theorized. “Nobody wants to see her in … a dominated [position]. They want to see her as an independent woman.”

Kevin, 25, appreciated the photo. “I think she’s wonderful — Rihanna’s very talented.”

Fans thought the sound of the single was a bit dark too. “It’s different. She’s always coming with something new and interesting,” Gregory told MTV News. “It’s slower than her other songs. I liked it. There was something that caught me off guard a little bit when she said, ‘Pull the trigger.’ ”
