What Rihanna Wants In Her Dressingroom At US LGOE Tour

With the U.S. leg of Rihanna’s 2010 world tour scheduled to kick off next month in Auburn, Washington, concert promoters are preparing to deal with the singer’s very specific backstage demands.
According to her tour rider, excerpted below, Rihanna is rather particular when it comes to candles, flowers, and seating in her dressing room.

A six-foot couch needs to be “White, Cloth, Plush (No leather)” and “wide enough for her to stretch out on and sometime take a nap.” Animal print throw pillows (“Cheetah, Leopard”) cannot have sequins.

Since Rihanna’s arena digs are often locker rooms normally occupied by basketball and hockey players, the spaces need to be spruced up with “Icy Blue Chiffon” placed atop drapery and “Archipelago Black Forest Candles.” The bathroom, of course, must be “spotless,” and the toilet has to be deep cleaned before the star’s arrival.

Rihanna, 22, also requires a large throw rug (plush, with an animal print) in her dressing room. The rug, her rider notes, “must be CLEAN, as she will walk on it barefoot.” Though perhaps shower slippers or flip-flops are advisable considering the sweaty occupants who normally fill these spaces.

Rihanna Working On ‘Positive, Explosive’ Tracks With Sean Garrett

Rihanna channeled her personal life into her last album, Rated R, a dark collection of songs that touched on her experience with former flame Chris Brown, who assaulted her just before the 2009 Grammys. For her follow-up, she and her collaborators are promising something more energetic.

Rihanna recently told Elle that she’s much happier these days, and gushed about how her new beau, baseball player Matt Kemp, keeps her “sane.” And according to songwriter Sean Garrett, who has been in the studio with Rihanna recently, her new music reflects this state of mind.

“I can definitely say that her album is definitely gonna be way more exciting, happy,” Garrett told MTV News. “I hope she doesn’t mind me saying this. I love Rihanna. She’s fun, she’s like a sister, and I tend to think she doesn’t really take herself too seriously. And I think that’s what this album is gonna be about.

“Remember when Rihanna was just the little girl from the island and she was just having fun with ‘Pon de Replay’ and enjoying life?” Garrett continued. “It always seemed like, ‘Dag, she has that thing.’ And it wasn’t so serious until the incident happened. And everything became so serious. That’s just life. But I’m just happy to see her back. And I can definitely say the records that we’ve been working on are very positive and very explosive. Heavy in the club.”

In addition to Garrett, producer David Guetta said he wants to work with Rihanna and help her revisit her “Umbrella” days.

“Well, you know, I’m a DJ, so I make beats that make you want to dance,” Guetta told MTV News. “And I think she was one of the first to do that in that urban world, so you know, I think it would be good for her to do it again.”

Rihanna’s Beauty Secrets Revealed

In the last few years Rihanna has blossomed from a cookie-cutter popstar who didn’t really stand out, to a fashion icon who is constantly reinventing herself.

While Rihanna plays an active part in masterminding each of her new looks, it’s her hairstylist Ursula Stephen and make-up artist Karin Darnell who ensure each look is better than the next. Karin calls it a ‘collaboration; Rihanna understands fashion and trends’.

We wanted to know more about Ri Ri’s covetable looks, so Karin popped into ELLE HQ last week to share her beauty secrets and to tell you how to get some of Rihanna’s make-up looks at home.

On complexion

“For black skin you can’t beat Iman’s foundations for texture and colour. To avoid your complexion looking  too flat use a foundation a shade lighter than your skintone to add highlights to your cheekbones, nose and brow bones.  One shade will just blank you out” says Karin. “Apply foundation with your fingers and remember the key word is blend!” she adds.

“Also, don’t over-powder your complexion. Moisture in the skin is a sign of youth. Simply blot excess oil with a tissue and dust lightly with powder”

“If you want to add a bit of shimmer to your complexion, I like to use Benefit’s Bathina Body So Fine, £24.50 as a highlighter.”

On getting a smoky eye right
“On Rihanna I like to blend a smoky shadow out under the lower lash line to enlarge the eyes up and out towards the temples. Again, blending is key to getting this right” says Karin. “I hadn’t used this look for a while, but dipped back into it for the Rude Boy video”.

“For me smoky is a haze, it doesn’t have to be black it just needs to be a wash of colour. Dark lilac can still appear impactful once mascara and liner is applied. On the Rockstar video I warmed black, smoky eyes with claret and burnt orange shadows”.

On the perfect lip colour
“I use a lot of rich berries on Rihanna. For the Ti Amo video I used a deep, dark berry lipstick. I then applied a berry gloss in the middle of the lip to break it up. Light in the centre, whether it’s a clear gloss or a hint of pink or red, will give dark lip colours warmth” explains Karin.

“For the new Rockstar video I used a black lip colour and warmed it up with a purple gloss, try  by Diorkiss in Blackcurrant Cream, £16. Tough looks still need to be feminine”.

“I like Tom Ford’s Bruised Plum, £35, it’s really wearable” she adds.

On coloured mascara
“I’ve used coloured mascara on Rihanna before – a modern way to wear this is to colour match the mascara to your eyeshadow. Go for a dark blue, green or purple and pair with a similar eyeshadow shade. It’s a great look for a night out”.

On working with Rihanna
“It’s a collaboration, she understands fashion and trend and knows that, at the end of the day, it’s just make-up” says Karin. “She loves the Twiggy look”.

On Rihanna’s new hair
“She has been dying to go red for ages. It’s a fun change for the summer, she’s young so she likes to experiment with new looks. At the Capital Summertime Ball I used a bright red lipstick, Dior Addict in Red Desire, £21.50. I also love Tom Ford’s Cherry Lush lipstick, £35”.

On her favourite make-up artist products
Gloss Appeal in Crystal by Clarins, £14.01 “it makes lips look like glass but doesn’t feel sticky”.

Lipcote, £3.25 at Boots “this really does keep lipstick in place. Load on your lip colour, blot, then load again. Apply the lipcote and leave it to dry – don’t rub your lips together. Once dry just apply gloss”.

Mac Irridescent Loose Powder in Golden Bronze, £17 “I use this all over the body; it adds a sheen to the skin”.

Rihanna Wants An Album Like ‘Thriller’

What’s up, this is Bu and I’ve linked up with VIBE.COM for a new blog series. I’m going to be chronicling my experiences and role as an A&R. I have big shoes to fill as the Vice President of Def Jam, and I want you all to take a walk with me on Vibe.com. I should start by letting you know a little more about what I actually do and then give y’all a little sneak peek of what I’ve been working on.

Rihanna is coming along incredibly. I’m trying to push her to where every song will be a hit from 1 to 12. I’m talking about NO album fillers. Our bar for this album is Michael Jackson’s Thriller. We got smashes from Stargate, Ester Dean, Mel & Mus and Rock City. We’re definitely going in with Ne-Yo, The-Dream and other writers and producers that have always been a part of her creative process since day one. She’s great to work with and very hands on with every song that’s being written and produced. She has visual concepts for just about every song. It’s already giving me the feel of a timeless album, and right now is her time.

Drake Talks About Rihanna

recently there were rumors that ” Drake’s ” song entitiled Fire Works was dedicated or was talking about Rihanna when he was asked about that he replied :

“I addressed it on my album. It’s not a broken heart, it’s just for me, I’m in such a confident position that I’m almost numb to feeling small. It’s been so long since a woman has made me feel small and that’s a real emotion. When you want to be a part of a woman’s life and you are nervous, all of these things that maybe I was when I was 15 or 16, it’s just been a while since I felt like that. I really looked at it as paying homage to her for giving me that feeling. I just respect her for bringing that feeling back for me because it was real. It was a real emotion.” [...] “It really wasn’t meant to be some “pity me”. It was one of the most beautiful thing I’ve experienced in a long time. It’s so rare that I feel nervous and small due to a woman’s presence. And I will tell you that, Rihanna had me so overwhelmed at the time that we met and throughout the duration of our friendship (or whatever it was that we had) that she gave me an emotion I truly miss in my life. On the album I wanted to pay homage to her for giving me that emotion. I don’t know when the next time I will feel that. I would say that I was very in to that situation but I wouldn’t say I loved her. I didn’t get to know her well enough to say that I love her.”

David Guetta Wants To Drop Dance Beats On Rihanna’s Next LP

When Rihanna released her Rated R last fall, she showed fans that she was in a darker, more serious mood. Tracks like “Russian Roulette” and “Hard” were decidedly more introspective than her past club bangers. But if superstar French DJ David Guetta has his way, he’ll have Rih back to singing tunes like her mega-hit “Umbrella.”

“Well, you know I’m a DJ, so I make beats that make you wanna dance,” Guetta told MTV News at the Activision E3 party in Los Angeles. “And I think she was one of the first to do that in that urban world, so you know, I think it would be good for her to do it again.”

While the producer already has some material in mind for the pop star, he said it was just a matter of scheduling.

“We’re thinking of doing something together, yes,” he revealed. “Yeah, yeah, yeah [the beat's ready], we just have to make sure it’s OK with her schedule and my schedule, ’cause … this is what happens. Unfortunately, it’s not only about the music anymore, it’s also about schedules, which is really boring but, you know.”

Dutch DJ/producer Afrojack was able to get into the studio with Guetta and hear some of the material he’s working on for Rihanna.

“He was in the studio with me the first time [after] he finished the new song for Rihanna,” Afrojack said of Guetta. “He was like, ‘Oh my God! You gotta hear this! It’s crazy!’ I was expecting some crazy club sh–. He played me that track, and it was a good track. I think, pop-wise, it’s a fatter sound. Musically, it’s as high a level as RedOne, Lady Gaga’s producer.”

Rihanna has been vocal about bringing up the energy level on her next album.

“Rated R, I love the sound of it, in terms of the bass,” Rihanna told MTV Korea in February. “I really like the bottom, the grime of it. But if I were to combine that with more energetic, uptempo pop records, then I think that will be a happy marriage. And that’s where we’ll probably go next.”
