Def Jam slashed Rihanna’s Rated R album to $3.99 pre-sale earlier this week. And on the 23rd, on its release date, they slashed the price to $0.99. Many sources are reporting it’s because of the low projections of sales.

Back in the fall of 2005, Rihanna was an up-and-coming pop and R&B singer who had just released her first single, “Pon De Replay.” The fresh-faced artist from Barbados hadn’t even released a video for the song but seemed poised for the superstardom she would later find with hits like “Umbrella,” “Disturbia” and her new album, Rated R.
Just four years ago, the singer said she couldn’t predict what her future would look like, but she was aiming high.
“I can’t tell you where I’ll see myself in five years, but I can tell you I will work my best to be the most successful artist that I can be in five years,”
she said.
Rihanna said her music was a reflection of her life, even when the singer was decidedly less high-profile.
“It’s just imagination, being creative; that’s what my music is composed with,”
she said in her first interview with MTV News.
“Being creative and thinking of situations, whether situations I went through or situations I’ve observed people going through.”
Although she’s probably a long way off from thinking of retirement, Rihanna did have a concrete idea of what she wanted her legacy to be.
“Remembered as Rihanna. Remembered as being the artist from the Caribbean who came here and made it internationally. Just remembered as me, ’cause I’m true to my music, and I just want people to realize that and appreciate me for that.”

Rihanna will hit the airwaves on Thanksgiving evening (November 26) on Fuse in a new sit down interview with host Toure!
The 21-year-old “Rated R” singer will speak about what she wanted to name her album, her style and finding flaws.
On her album title:
“I actually wanted to name my album, Such a F—ing Lady, but a couple of stores, a couple of major outlets didn’t allow that… That was the title for a while, but Rated R made more sense because of the overall story. It’s a movie really, the album. But Such a F—ing Lady – we take everything back to that – especially in our style.”
Don’t miss RiRi on Thanksgiving evening (Thursday) at 6/5c on Fuse!
On her personal style:
“I like playing with the tough but not too tough, and being a lady but not too girlie because that’s not me. I kind of play on both. I like things a little twisted, a bit of a bad a– and a bit of lady. And you know, such a f—ing lady, no lady says ‘a f—ing lady’.”
On finding flaws:
“There’s something that is never good enough. You never look in the mirror and say ‘yes, I’m perfect today’. It’s always like, okay I don’t have a pimple but my gut looks huge. Awesome. You always find a flaw. That’s what the mirror is there for, it’s very bad.”

RIHANNA has revealed her Christmas wish-list for 2009 – “great food and great sex”.
The singer has avoided the dating scene since ex-boyfriend CHRIS BROWN brutally assaulted her back in February.
But she admits she’s itching for some action between the sheets – and some of her mum’s spicy beef stew – as the festive season approaches.
When asked what she wants this Christmas, Rihanna responded:
“Some great food and some great sex.
“That’s not too much to ask, right? The sex might be a little difficult but definitely my mum is coming to cook me some food.
Video: What Rihanna wants for Christmas
“My mum cooks this thing called Pepperpot, which is like a stew. Sounds strange but it’s really good. It’s spicy, which I love.
“But we do the whole traditional tree thing, it’s just not a white Christmas.
“I might be in Barbados but I’m thinking about spending it with my grandparents in New York.”
Meanwhile, the star has defended X Factor judges over the criticism and pressure they pile on contestants.
Rihanna – who will be performing on the show this Sunday – rejects calls on SIMON COWELL and co to tone down the ferocity of their comments, insisting the real world’s a far less forgiving place.
She added:
“The show is huge – it reaches a lot of my fans. They called and asked us and we couldn’t possibly say no.
“The judges are very accurate when they say ‘that was great’ or ‘that was horrible’. They’re betting on these kids and they’re looking for a star.
“In this industry, if they can’t take the comments the judges are giving them then they won’t be prepared for this world. This world is much more intense and the comments can be a lot worse.
“Simon Cowell is nothing compared to what this industry can do to you.”
Rihanna’s new album Rated R was released yesterday.
