Bryan Tanaka [Rihanna's Dancer] Answers 10 questions

Back in 2008, Rihanna Daily asked Rihanna’s dancer Bryan Takana – who’s working with Beyonce now – 10 questions.

1# What’s your full name?

Bryan Kekoa Tanaka.

2# When and where were you born?

April 11th 1983 in Olympia, WA.

3# When did you first start working with Rihanna?

I danced for her when she did a tribute for Destiny’s Child on the World Music Awards back in 2005. But really started our working relationship when the Umbrella video came out in March of 2007!

4# What was the funniest and what was the scariest moment you’ve had with Rihanna so far?

The funniest moment with Rihanna was on our last show of our 1st European tour. We played sooo many pranks on stage. The highlight was when me and Julius came out as Egyptian Pharaohs on “Question Existing.” We made her crack up during her song!

5# What was the best/most interesting place you’ve ever played? Why?

The most interesting place we’ve played together was Abuja, Nigeria. The performance was kinda chaotic due to lack of preparation from the Nigerian side. It got made up when Jay-Z took the stage with her though. But the icing of it all was that half of our crew got stranded in Abuja for an extra 2 days and I missed our next show because of it!

6# What’s the best part about working with Rihanna?

The best part about working for Rihanna is that she is the most caring, smart, and down to earth woman. Not too mention she’s drop dead gorgeous.

7# Will you keep working with Rihanna during her next album?

It’s up in the air but I hope to be working with her on her next album.

8# What other profession would you have liked to attempt if it didn’t turn out this way?

Firefighter or Physical Therapy.

9# Describe your personality in 3 words.

Goofy, Caring, and Focused.

10# Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

In 10 years I see myself as an actor, choreographer, dance teacher, and proud parent.

Rihanna ‘Took A Chance’ With Ne-Yo For ‘Russian Roulette’

Ne-Yo said Rihanna requested the song’s somber vibe. “She wanted to be dark, but not just dark for the sake of being dark,” he told MTV News. “Dark with kind of a meaning, dark with some kind of thing to it.”

Ne-Yo called the track “my first ventures off into the fictitious,” as he explained how he came up with the haunting Russian roulette theme.

“I’m listening to the track, and all I can see is Rihanna and some random person sitting across from each other at the table with a gun sitting in the middle of the table and playing Russian roulette,” he explained. “And I just started thinking, ‘What would go through your mind if you was in that situation?’ It just all started coming together, and Rihanna has never been one to be afraid to take a chance, especially with me. She’s always game to do something a little different. I played it for her, and she loved it — went in and knocked it out. The rest is history.”

The eerie ballad shows the world how both Ne-Yo and Rihanna have grown as artists, he said. And that growth stemmed from their “absolute trust.”

“I trust Rihanna to be Rihanna, and she trusts me to be me,” he said. “That’s the coolest thing about our relationship. I don’t expect anything more from her. I must say this song is a step in somewhat of a different direction for both of us. We kind of both took a chance.”

And to the fans who think the track is too dark for a club favorite like Rihanna, Ne-Yo suggests they look back into music history. “It’s definitely dark, but if you think about it, [Michael Jackson's] ‘Thriller’ was dark, but it’s one of the biggest-selling records of all time,” he argued.

“Nobody’s really going out to play Russian roulette or thinking about killing themselves or nothing like that. It was just an interesting topic over a crazy beat, and who better to pull that off than somebody like Rihanna?”

Rihanna Accused For “Copying” Wrestling Album Cover

Rihanna has been accused of copying the cover of a wrestling album.

42122200

Paul Heyman, who used to run Extreme Championship Wrestling, wrote on his website that the cover of Rihanna’s ‘Russian Roulette’ single is similar to the 1998 compilation album ECW: Extreme Music.

Rihanna is wrapped in barbed wire for the ‘Russian Roulette’ image, as is the wrestler Sandman on the cover of the ECW album.

“It’s pretty obvious this was copied from, or at least extremely inspired by the ECW album cover,” Heyman told The Sun. “From the barbed wire and the right arm up in the air to the blood dripping off the logo.”

However, he added:

“Hey, I don’t blame them. If you’re going to copy someone, copy from the best. By the way, Rihanna… you’re welcome!”

Rihanna Fans React to Russian Roulette Artwork

The wait is over and the fans have spoken. Rihanna’s new single, “Russian Roulette,” made its way to radio today and the cover art made its way to the Internet.

The single sleeve centers on a photo of Rihanna, wearing very little clothing and many restraints. The singer is entangled in what looks to be barbed wire, sporting a cut-out eye patch while her right arm is suspended by a chain.

MTV News ventured into Times Square to ask fans about their first impressions of the risqué album art. While many liked the image and thought it was “cool,” most fans seem to think there may be a hidden underlying meaning.

“Personally, I think it looks a little uncomfortable,” commented Richard, 21, from Portland. “Given the recent things with Chris Brown, [there might be] an implicit message in there.” Other fans also thought that the photo may have deeper meaning.

“I think that one of the problems that people are already having with it is that her incident with Chris Brown,” fan Paul, 25, theorized. “Nobody wants to see her in … a dominated [position]. They want to see her as an independent woman.”

Kevin, 25, appreciated the photo. “I think she’s wonderful — Rihanna’s very talented.”

Fans thought the sound of the single was a bit dark too. “It’s different. She’s always coming with something new and interesting,” Gregory told MTV News. “It’s slower than her other songs. I liked it. There was something that caught me off guard a little bit when she said, ‘Pull the trigger.’ ”

Music Video To “Russian Roulette” Premiere On November 6th

According to reports, it seems like sexy Barbadian singer, Rihanna will be releasing the music video for her new single, “Russian Roulette” on November 6th. The video will be aired on ABC during the primetime slot and is going to be directed by Anthony Mandler.

The song is the first single off of her highly anticipated upcoming album, Rated R, and was just recently released.

Producer Chuck Harmony said of the song,

“If I had to speculate, I would speculate that [she released it] for shock value. ‘Russian Roulette’ is the kind of song that when you hear it you’re gonna talk about it – whether you like it, you talk about it. It’s so unexpected, from the tempo to the title to the feel.”

Rihanna Released “Russian Roulette” For Shock Value?

The goal for Rihanna’s upcoming album was to deliver something that fans haven’t heard and producer, Chuck Harmony said that’s what he aimed to do with her single “Russian Roulette.” We haven’t heard many sad ballads from Rihanna, especially as the lead single of an album.

Sure there was “Unfaithful” and “Rehab” possibly falls into that category, but in general it’s been catchy dance tunes.

Now, she’s got a more adult sound and harmony says they wanted more than just some fluffy pop song, “We wanted to give her a movie. We didn’t want to just give her a three-minute song. I felt musically like everybody was gonna give like that ‘Disturbia,’ ‘SOS,’ kind of pop, uptempo stuff, and I really wanted the song that me and Ne-Yo did to stand out.”

Talking about “Russian Roulette”, Harmony says, “If I had to speculate, I would speculate that [she released it] for shock value. ‘Russian Roulette’ is the kind of song that when you hear it you’re gonna talk about it — whether you like it, you talk about it. It’s so unexpected, from the tempo to the title to the feel.”

When Harmony and Ne-Yo joined up they knew Rihanna needed “something a little darker, something a little edgier, something a little more morbid. Just to try it out.”

And even better – Rihanna loves the track! Harmony reveals, “Rihanna phoned in to Ne-Yo to tell him that it was one of her favorites. I think overall she was comfortable with the vibe of the song and comfortable with the lyrical content of the song. She loves the song.”

One important thing that Harmony addressed was whether or not the album would be about Chris Brown. He says that no matter what Rihanna was singing about, the public was bound to think it was about Chris Brown.

He explains, “Because that’s the newest situation. Whatever she came with, if she came out with ‘I still love you’ that would have been about Chris Brown. If she came out with ‘I hate your dog’ that would have been about Chris Brown, too. It’s just a natural reaction for people to associate ’cause she’s been so tight-lipped.”

Chris On Hot 97 About Incident- “I regret every moment, every second of it”

LISTEN TO THE INREVIEW HERE

Chris Brown says he’s still learning from his mistakes and spends every second regretting his assault on ex-girlfriend Rihanna in February.

Since he beat Ri, Chris claims he is now trying to change his life around. During a radio interview this yesterday, as he premiered new song ‘Crawl’, Brown told the host: “I’m human. If people feel a certain way, I’m not going to say they’re wrong.”
“But it’s not right to judge somebody when people make mistakes all the time.” Brown added. “I’ve learned from my mistakes and I’m learning from them. And I regret every moment, every second of it.”

Chris also told New York radio station Hot 97 that he still has strong feelings for Rihanna, adding: “We’ve been friends since I was like 15, we got serious when I was like 17.”
“Feelings are feelings and they don’t go away overnight, especially if you sit down and are like, ‘Look, I’m going to really be in this relationship with you, whatever the case, past our busy schedules, past us being two of the biggest artists.’ I really care about her.”

As for his future, the singer promised: “I won’t let you down anymore. That was one of the most embarrassing things for me, because of my image and who I was as a young role model to a lot of kids. It was hard for me.”

Chris is going to release two music videos soon as Rihanna and his new single aired on the radio yesterday called crawl. They played “Run this town” during the break, and then later on asked him if he has heard RiRi’s new single. He responded “Oh, the slow one written by Ne-Yo?”.

In case you wonder how I know this, I listened. And all you people commenting “Once a women beater always a women beater”, stop doing that. If you would hit someone and ppl would start calling you a beater, would that be fun to you??
